Footloose

The Arts Center announces auditions for their summer youth production of the musical, Footloose whose score includes “Lets Hear It For The Boy,” “Almost Paradise,” “Holding Out For a Hero,” and of course, “Footloose”. Lana Spry directs Footloose with rehearsals starting around mid May and production dates are July 11-26.
The Footloose cast features numerous roles for various teenagers and adults, as well as large singing-dancing ensembles. Come prepared with an up-tempo show tune. The song does not have to be from Footloose, but should have a similar 80’s pop feel. Bring your own sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. Auditions will also include cold readings from the script and dance auditions for the teenagers.
There are roles available for teenagers, ages 14 and up, 3 men, and 4 women. In addition, there are roles available for dancers only.
The auditions will be held at The Arts Center of Cannon County located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, just west of the town of Woodbury, approximately 20 minutes from Murfreesboro, Manchester, and McMinnville and one hour southeast of Nashville. Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story

Come with a prepared song in the style of Buddy Holly. Accompanist will be provided. If you play an instrument please bring it and be prepared to sing and play. There will also be cold readings from the script. Show dates are Aug. 8 - 23 and all roles are available.

Character Breakdown for Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story
Buddy Holly
Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Buddy is under 25 and preferably 6ft or over. Must play guitar, sing and act and have a feel for Rock ‘n’ Roll. Buddy is intelligent and charismatic.
Joe B Mauldin
Double Bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Preferably under 25. Serious, square young man with musical ability. Must be able to sing and act.
Jerry Allison
Drummer, preferably under 25 from Lubbock, Texas. Good looking, irrepressible and cheeky with musical ability. Must be able to sing and act.
Maria Elena Holly
Attractive, under 25 of Hispanic-American extraction. Classy and well-educated. Must be able to sing and musical ability is an advantage.
J.P. Richardson – The Big Bopper
A former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger-than-life character. 6ft or above with the ability to command the stage on his own. His key song is “Chantilly Lace”. Must be able to act and the ability to play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.
Ritchie Valens
Good looking, under 25 and of Hispanic-American extraction. Ritchie is an attractive, handsome boy with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage. His key song is “La Bamba”. Must be able to act and the ability to play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.
Hipockets Duncan
Around 36, an exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.
Norman Petty
Around 35, a record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.
Vi Petty
Around 35, the wife of Norman Petty with a heart of gold. Vi must be able to sing and act, and have exceptional Rock ‘n’ Roll keyboards ability, with a good sense of humor.
Apollo Performer
Male of African-American extraction with the ability to hold the stage on his own. Key song “Party”. Must have good comic timing and be able to act. The ability to play a musical instrument is an advantage.

The Company
Mostly under 25 years of age. Must be able to sing and have ability to play a multitude of roles and musical instruments is a plus but not required for all roles.
