Summer Youth Conservatory

Sixteen Years Strong

 

Summer Youth Conservatory is dedicated to the development of life skills through participation in the arts - helping kids reach a new stage!  In addition to classes, this program offers the opportunity for all participants to appear on stage in a production at the end of each session.  This is also a valuable opportunity to be seen on stage by Arts Center directors.  Students will audition for roles in performances.

Creative Movement / Dance

Voice / Music

Conservatory Staff:

 

   Donald Fann - Conservatory Director, Acting

A Cannon County native who has served as Executive Director at the Arts Center of Cannon County since 1995, when he founded the Summer Youth Conservatory Program that has become a model in the Mid-State.  With over 20 years of teaching experience, he holds a B.F.A. in Theater from the University of Memphis and has received training as a Teaching Artist from The Lincoln Center Institute and the Wolftrap Institute, Foxfire Teacher Training Program, as well as The Tennessee Arts Commission's Peer Advisory Network.  His extensive theatrical backgraound includes over 150 credits for directing, design, and performance from across the state.  Donald currently lives on his family farm outside of Woodbury with his wife, Cortilla and his three daughters, Chloe, Hattie and Corinne.

 

 

 

    Scott Willis - Music & Voice

Scott Willis, a native of Murfreesboro, has been involved with both music and the theatre for as long as he can remember.  Scott is a junior vocal performance major at Middle Tennessee State University.  Scott is excited to be directing this year's Summer Youth Musical, High School Musical 2 at The Arts Center and is excited to be a part of this Summer Conservatory Program.

 

 

 

 

     Ky Baker - Acting

Ky Baker, a resident of Winchester, has been performing in some way for most of his life, be it music or theatre.  Ky is a freshman theatre arts major with an acting focus at Pace University in New York City.  Ky has also been involved in community theatre and semi-professional theatre all around the Middle Tennessee area.  Ky is passionate about the art of performing, either on camera or on stage, and is very excited to be a part of this year's Summer Youth Conservatory.

 

 

 

     Kaleena DeVar - Dance & Movement

Kaleena graduated in 2006 from Middle Tennessee State University with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy and a double minor in Dance & Theater.  In 2007 her work Pink Elephant was selected for the Regional Southeast American College Dance Festival.  While at MTSU she received the A-lists award and was also awarded with the up and coming creativity award.  In 2007, Ms. DeVar founded Heritage Dance Project and in 2009 extended that company by introducing Jr. Heritage.  Kaleena currently works at the Cannon Arts Dance Studio where she is exuberant to be teaching dance to local students.  Kaleena is happy to make this summer her fourth year working with the Summer Youth Conservatory.

 

 

 

Junior Conservatory - Students entering grades 1st through 6th

Session One:

June 7 - 18 with performance on June 19 at 2:00pm

$150 / $175 after May 1, 2010

Session Two:

June 21 - July 2 wtih performance on July 2 at 7:30pm

$150 / $175 after May 2, 2010

Senior Conservatory - Students entering grades 7th - 12th

July 12 - 30 with performance on July 30 at 7:30pm

$200 / $225 after June 1, 2010

 

Junior Conservatory begins a 9:00AM and ends at 3:00PM daily.  Senior Conservatory begins at 9:00AM and ends at 5:00PM.  All students atending must bring a sack lunch.  Concessions will be available at lunch time and during the afternoon break.  You will receive a medical release form in the mail.  Your child will be enroled when tuition is paid and we have received the medical release form for your child.  Please call The Arts Center of Cannon County at (615) 563-ARTS or 1-800-235-9073 for more information.
